El Pensador “The Thinking Man”

One of the most important techniques and could almost be said to be the base of Keysi: El Pensador, pillar of the method and support of its technique.
What is the Pensador?
The Pensador is defined as “Pure instinct”, is an instinctive reaction (action-reaction) by which we protect the most important part of the body, the head.
Analysing the technical details we create a protection for the most vulnerable part of the body, a simple but powerful, effective and useful; because in the same time it allows us to analyse the environment and likewise allows us to increase our capacity for decision, and thus act accordingly against the danger before us, hence we can say that the Pensador is the sum of our basic survival instinct and our ability to react to the most immediate danger. (Action – Reaction).
How useful is the Pensador?
The Pensador is the basic protection technique of Keysi, taking as reference the pyramid since its the strongest structure that exists.
Why protect your head instead of worrying about other body parts?
When we read about the Pensador, it would be logical to say that this question arises indirectly from common sense.
But as we argue below the head is the most important part of the body, since a hit to an arm or leg are painful but can be bearable. But a hit to the eyes, nose or throat are so subtle and effective making you lose around the 80% of your resilience, producing a “Shock” when impact is received.
That is why the Pensador is such an important defence within Keysi and the basic of development.
In it we find a large majority of Keysi techniques for example the “ Pensa-Choque” which we will talk about later on.
